What is PCOS?
PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) is a syndrome that affects an estimated 10 million women in the United States alone. Women suffering from PCOS can experience infertility, obesity, excess of facial and body hair and/or miscarriages to name some of the symptoms. PCOS places women at a 10-fold risk of heart attacks and stroke and a 3-fold risk of endometrial cancer. It also significantly increases the risk of diabetes. All types of women can be diagnosed with this unfortunate medical condition and less than half of women with PCOS have been diagnosed, making awareness efforts crucial to the fight against this syndrome.
